As a Third Sector Interface, Arran CVS works closely with statutory partners to input third sector knowledge at various strategic and local planning discussions.

The Arran Island Plan

The Arran Local Island Plan is a ten-year plan with a long-term strategic focus developed with and for the community.

The vision is a vibrant growing community with a thriving economy, affordable housing, reliable transport and meaningful employment – creating a place where everyone can genuinely feel part of a community devoted to the wellbeing of everyone with no one left out.

North Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership
Arran locality facts
  • Higher life expectancy (compared to the rest of North Ayrshire)
  • Higher frail elderly population who have more than one health condition
  • Relatively low levels of deprivation and unemployment
  • High educational attainment for local pupils
  • Lower levels of crime

Arran had a wide range of on-island services; however, the largely rural community has poor transport options and has higher proportion of older people needing support.

Arran Health and Social Care/Community Planning Partnership Forum has identified the following priorities:

  • Develop transport solutions that help local people in accessing support
  • Reduce social isolation
  • Affordable housing solutions

North Ayrshire Community Planning Partnership

The Community Empowerment Act sets out what community planning is, who should be involved and what our main aim should be.

We have a board that is made up of 11 key partners - including the Third Sector Interface - that oversees the work of the partnership. Our main aim is to tackle inequalities. However, the Community Planning Partnership in North Ayrshire is much bigger than the partners that sit on the Board and drive our work.

Our Community Engagement Network included over 50 public, private  and third sector partners. Communities are key to Community Planning working well. Empowered communities can achieve great things for their residents. They achieve even more when they work in partnership. http://www.northayrshire.community/your-community/

In North Ayrshire we have six localities. Arran being one of them. http://www.northayrshire.community/your-community/arran/

Each locality has its own Partnership that includes:

  • Elected members
  • Community councils
  • Other community representatives
  • Key community planning partners

They decide on local priorities and drive the work to tackle these

The Ayrshire Community Trust

A partnership was formed with The Ayrshire Community Trust (TACT) known as the Third Sector Interface (TSI) in 2010.

As a TSI we supports and represents North Ayrshire's third sector generally, across all policy areas, with involvement at local and national levels, providing an interface between the island community, local government, regional, national, and other bodies.

The TSI vision is of improved quality of life for the people and communities of North Ayrshire and Arran by building a strong, effective, and sustainable Third Sector.

To enable us to implement our strategic role in North Ayrshire, and enhance our capacity, both organisations share attendance at numerous strategic meetings and facilitate forums to support local third sector organisations.

You can find out more about TACT here  https://www.tact.scot/
