Scotland's Islands Funding Advice Day

Arran Council for Voluntary Service hosted a Funding Information Day on Monday 6th December 2010, at Ormidale Pavilion from 11am. Due to snow in abundance, some speakers were not able to attend, but those present provided a wealth of information on funding currently available from Big Lottery, including Awards for All, Scotland's Islands, and Argyll and the Islands LEADER. Thanks to Mhairi Owens of Big Lottery, Margie Currie of the Community Council and Jim Nichols for their input.

The date for the AGM is now Tuesday 11th January, and not the Wednesday as previously advertised. Kenneth Gibson MSP has confirmed that he will be our Guest Speaker this year. All are very welcome to attend at the Ormidale Pavilion, 7.30pm.

Straight Talking comes to Arran

The afternoon of Tuesday 19th October is Arran's opportunity to hear, direct from North Ayrsire Council, the achievements and aims of the Local Authority. A general introduction will precede 5 workshops, with topics covering:

  • Environment and public spaces
  • Independent living for older people
  • Community services, libraries and museums
  • Prevention and health inequalities
  • Education 3 –18 years

For anyone unable to attend, Arran Council for Voluntary Service will be there to listen, interact and report back. If you would like any questions asked and cannot do so yourself, please call us at the office and we'll be only too happy to represent you on the day. North Ayrshire Council's website has more details.

Mountain Innovations

There will be a European Mountain Convention conference in Norway on September 15th - 17th (for those able to make the short journey!) organised by Euromontana. North Ayrshire Council are seeking to get your feedback on the Main Issues Report, which can be viewed by clicking on the link. It is also available to view in the library.

They will be holding a series of Public Consultation events. Call 01294 225125 for more details.

Rural Policy
SCVO’s Rural Policy work seeks to influence decision makers and policymaking whether within government, the public sector, the voluntary sector or beyond. This work supports ongoing activities to increase understanding of rural voluntary organisations, support their growth and improvement, provide information to assist them and raise the profile of the rural issues with which they deal. Recent work has included input to the reform of the CAP and the Scottish Rural Development Strategy.  For more information see www.scvo.org.uk/scvo/PolicyAndParliament/PolicIssues.aspx
