Arran CVS - About Arran CVS

Arran CVS was established in 1965 to co-ordinate voluntary effort on the Island of Arran. We are a local charitable organisation that provides a range of information and office services to voluntary and community organisations operating on Arran. We also act as a bridge between the island community and national, regional and local government and other bodies. The service is run by a voluntary management committee drawn from its members, consisting of representatives from locally based groups and individual members of the public that are committed to the aims of the Arran CVS. There are over 260 voluntary and community groups operating on Arran. Our main focus is to offer information and practical help to existing groups in managing their organisations and activities. We also help to set up new groups and projects. We are part of a national network of 56 Councils for Voluntary Services in Scotland. They in turn are supported by the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations. We are part funded by the Scottish Executive. The remainder of our budget we raise ourselves through revenue generated from office services and project funding.

The CVS Network have adopted a Core Activities Framework (CAF) to ensure that voluntary and community organisations, funders, partner agencies and members of the public have a clear understanding of the services they can expect from their local CVS. The depth and range of activity undertaken by individual CVS are determined in part, by the human and financial resources available to them and the environment in which they operate. Some CVS may deliver core activities in partnership, or by offering a signposting service to other appropriate providers.
